Grenadier Fantasy Warriors Orcs III

I have around 200 of the old Grenadier Orcs mainly picked up from ebay over the last couple of years, and progress is being made putting them on bases as enemies of my FW Dwarfs.

Now for some odd reason I have 23 orc archers, but they are all the same pose - with bow fully drawn, and I have a number of 'vacancies' in all of the other infantry units.

So it was with interest that i came across these two articles from Combat Zone Chronicles.
1. Playing with Plastic Orcs
2. Playing with More Plastic Orcs

Now I'd seen that Doug over at EM-4 Miniatures is selling the old Grenadier plastic Orc and Dwarf figures for some time and had even ordered samples of them but had gone no further.

After reading this article I think I've found the cheapest way possible to bulk out the existing units and create a genuine horde. I'm not sure I would build whole units of these plastic orcs but I think mixing them in with other metal units should work well.

At only 15p a figure I can't go wrong.

Oh, except of course I need to be actually get around to painting them!!

A Bask of Lizardmen I

Yet another idea for an army...

Been toying with the idea of a lizardman army with a difference for a little while now. I remember seeing reptiliads from RaFM over 20 years ago and liking but being able to buy any.

Apparently the collective name for crocodiles and sometimes reptiles in general is a Bask... well you live and learn!

So they will form the basis of the army along with some Tom Meier Lizardmen from citadel and also his troglodytes.

I want to do something a little more unusual so I'm also going to use the Grenadier Dragonmen as an arial threat. Dating from the mid 1980's these are long OOP but do come up on ebay. I can't find pictures for all these figures on line but I understand that there were 4 different blisters produced making 12 figures and I have 10 of them (and some more on the way from eBay).

If anyone has any info on the two I am missing thn info greatly received.

I put up this blog item following this brief discussion on tmp

The Horrid Form I

An Old PBeM and RPG character I played was something of a shapeshifter; I've looked for a figure to represent his 'natural' (also known as 'horrid') form for some years but without any luck. So i decided i had to make one.

This is a little larger than i would have wanted but is a mix of Reaper parts - a giant scorpion man, an ice demon, and their very useful tentacle pack.

Its a little difficult to see at the moment but i hope all will become clear when i (eventually) apply some paint.

Two more characters

OK, OK, I know its been a while but real life has been something of a dog lately.

Anyway i turned my hand to a couple of simple paint jobs in the last couple of weeks. Both of these are figures painted for a now defunct PBeM game i used to play in as figures for a couple of my friends' characters.

Finndian Solmund - Bard, all round good guy with a strange fascination for tentacles...

Li San (i think from memory) oriental sword mistress and big time ass kickerdaughter of a renowned pirate.

I need to work a bit on the metals as the washes and glazes I am using are dulling and obscuring details.
